what is nymarksminde?
Nymarksminde, close to Aalborg in Northern Denmark, offers Bed & Breakfast and Farmhouse holiday apartments for both holidaymakers in the high season as well as housing in the off-season for, for example, craftsmen on shorter or longer stays in the region.
Nymarksminde also offers Farmpark – a nature playground with fun facilities, lots of exciting activities and live farm animals. Farmpark is aimed at both holidaymakers and day visitors – and everyone is welcome regardless of age.
Nymarksminde also has an 18-hole football golf course, which challenges anyone who wants a few hours of exciting play, experiences, and competition for precision and patience.
Nymarksminde’s course and conference department has all modern facilities where companies can meet in beautiful surroundings to develop their business, etc.
Nymarksminde is only a 10-minute drive from the city of Aalborg, right in the heart of North Jutland and quite close to Vodskov, a lively trading town with supermarkets, specialty shops, and takeaways, beautifully situated in the natural area of Hammer Bakker.
Additionally, it’s close to many of the attractions, sights, and activities that North Jutland offers: the city of Aalborg, Fårup Sommerland, Skagen, the West Coast, Aalborg Zoo, Jesperhus Blomsterpark, the North Sea Oceanarium, and many more.
Nymarksminde, founded in 2001 as a Bed & Breakfast and farm stay, is owned and operated by the couple Ole & Inger Risager.
The history of Nymarksminde
We create excitement in the countryside
The story of Nymarksminde, as a holiday destination, begins at the end of the old millennium. The area around Vodskov, close to Aalborg in North Jutland, has long attracted Ole and Inger Risager, who frequently take long walks. They were particularly interested in a beautiful property that eventually came up for sale. This property was a farm called Nymarksminde, originally dating back to 1844, but the oldest preserved buildings on the site were from 1910.
Full-time job and leisure farming
After a few, but serious, considerations, the family takes action. And they gradually begin to dream of a life in the countryside. However, the combination of two full-time jobs, plus a farm, is not so successful. There is too much maintenance and too much work – but a coincidence leads the family to choose to leave their regular jobs behind and embrace the many challenges of the tourism industry.
Success by accident
It all begins with Ole’s mother-in-law often visiting, so the family sets up a nice little apartment for her in a former bachelor’s chamber. And when the mother-in-law isn’t visiting, a large sign is placed by the highway, showing the way to the Bed & Breakfast. Already the following year, 2 new apartments were built.
Then it got busy
“It was a huge success, and it completely surprised us. Guests lined up, and throughout the summer, everything was fully booked. And then we got excited, wanting to expand with more apartments, activities, and a bunch of other ideas.” That’s how Ole Risager tells it, and Inger continues: “We had this idea of creating a rural atmosphere like in the old days, where families had 4-5 children each, and everyone played together in natural surroundings.” Since then, things have been going smoothly, and today, the Risager family can look back on several fun years of work, with plenty of freedom and enormous amounts of work and challenges. Inger adds: “But it’s all worth it. Just think; every year, we have so many wonderful and happy people, both children and adults, visiting the place we love the most. And while they’re here, we’re working and enjoying our time off.
Business in rapid growth
Every year, a little more is built. More activities. More facilities. The apartments are improved, renovated. The playground receives additional fun and exciting activities. New initiatives are coming, for example, in the form of Football golf. And more is on the way when there’s time.
Togetherness matters most
To Ole and Inger, prioritizing time with the guests is also important, and during the high season, they are fully engaged in activities together with the guests, such as feeding the animals, enjoying time around the grill, and much more. It’s not surprising that many families choose to visit Nymarksminde year after year.
